Viluthu has successfully completed a training programme on ‘Gender and Participation in Community Development’, in the Jaffna district for 10 consecutive weekends, commencing from the 9th of August 2013. A total number of 32 male and female participants consisting of Govt. Officials, Staff members of NGOs, Undergraduates of University of Jaffna and Open University of SL and selected members of CBOs participated in this training.
The pool of resource personnel consisted of a professors and a lecturers of the University of Jaffna, the Managing Director of Knowledge Universe, lecturer from the National Institute of Social Development, Administrative Officer from the Chief Minister’s Office of Eastern Province, Community Development Officers, a Trainer from MDF South Asia and Staff members of Viluthu.
The topics which have been covered during the training sessions were, Motivational session for personality development and creativity, Introduction to social analysis, Field research methodology, Gender, Leadership and leadership skills, Communication skills, Introduction to Local Government, Social accountability, Good governance and Social activism. Apart from the theoretical inputs, the participants were also provided the opportunity for field exposures of visiting villages and a visit to the local government office. They also had to identify potential leaders and prepare their profiles. The participants were given an assignment to document a field analysis covering gender, caste and other social discriminations.
