Viluthu at UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York

Executive Director- Programme, Aaranya Rajasingam, represented Viluthu at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) meeting held from 14 – 24 March at the UN headquarters in New York. Viluthu was part of the civil society delegation from Sri Lanka at this meeting as partners of FOKUS Women, Norway.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Major concerns were raised regarding women’s economic and social empowerment around the world, and particularly regarding the fast reducing space for women human rights defenders and environmentalists, given the persecution faced by these activists in many countries.
